PIMA Server

1. What is the PIMA Server ?
The PIMA (Phone, Internet, Mobile, Analog) server has been developed so that any devices can get connected together with its help. Many kinds of products can be connected together and communicate each other because of the PIMA server. Convergence of products are realized. The PIMA server consists of the following major servers.
- Management Server
To manage the users and network devices. That is to support registration, update, removal of users, network cameras, network A/V servers, network DVRs, NVRs, access control systems, home servers, etc.
- IP Server
To manage the IP addresses and related information of network cameras, network A/V servers, network DVRs, NVRs, access control systems, home servers, etc. for users with PC, PDA, mobile phones to easily access to them.
To support global, private, static, dynamic IP addresses and DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server) for easy access by the name.
- Alarm Server
To send a notice (e-mail, SMS message, etc.) and to record event related information (video, time, etc.) when events occur.
- Mobile Server
To support the video/image viewing and camera/relay control from mobile devices (PDA, mobile phones, etc.)
- Relay Server (Broadcasting Server)
To broadcast real time video/audio from network cameras, network A/V servers, network DVRs, NVRs, access control systems, home servers, etc. to users (PC, PDA, mobile phones, TVs, network A/V servers, network monitors, etc.). The relay server is used to increase the concurrent users of a network device or to reduce the internet bandwidth required to stream video/audio data to multiple clients (for example, PCs, network A/V clients, network video recorders, licence plate recognition systems) connected to the same LAN.
- Contents Server (Photo & Movie Server)
To display photos and/or movies on the remote network photo & movie album.
2. Interoperability
The PIMA is interoperable with many network products and conventional products such as network cameras, network A/V servers, network DVRs, NVRs, network A/V clients, network monitors, access control systems, home servers, etc. for users with PC, PDA, mobile phones, TVs, video phones, etc. The PIMA server is revolving in order to make more products interoperable and to make it easy.
3. System Requirement and Performance
The PIMA server typically works on the following system.
- Hardware
- CPU : 2GHz Dual CPU
- Memory : 1GB
- HDD : 120GB
- Software
- OS : Linux
- DBMS : MySQL
- Web Server : Apaches
- Program : C, C++, HTML, HDML, JAVA, etc.
The performance of the PIMA server depends on the performance of the hardware platform of the PIMA server. Generally speaking, the above PIMA server can support more than 100,000 network devices such as network cameras, network A/V servers, network DVRs, home servers, etc.
4. Who is the operators of the PIMA server ?
- Camera Manufacturer
- Monitor Manufacturer
- DVR Manufacturer
- Home Network Company
- Security Service Company
- Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- Mobile Phone Service Operator
5. Is there any reason why the PIMA server is used ?
There are many reasons why the PIMA server has been intalled.
- PIMA Server as a Relay Server in the Illegal Parking Detection System
The PIMA server as the relay server (realtime broadcasting server) has been installed in the illegal parking detection system to reduce the network traffic and the cost of the leased internet line between the PTZ camera on the road and the central monitoring center. The following system diagram shows the effectiveness of the PIMA server as the relay server. With the PIMA server as the relay server, there is only one video stream between the PIMA server at the central monitoring center and the PTZ camera on the road. The PIMA server distributes the video from the PTZ camera to network A/V clients, PCs, license number plate recognition system, etc.

Without the PIMA server as the relay server, there are four video streams between the central monitoring center and the PTZ camera on the road. This means that the central monitoring center should lease more broad internet line with much higher cost.

- PIMA Server as a Relay Server at the Home Network System of a Apartment Complex
The PIMA server as the relay server (realtime broadcasting server) has been installed at the home network system of a apartment complex so that hundreds of concurrent users using home servers at homes access and see the live video from the cameras installed in the parking lots and in the children's playgrounds. That is, the PIMA server as a relay server is used to increase the number of concurrent users of the network A/V servers.

Without the PIMA server as the relay server, it is impossible that hundreds of concurrent users using home servers at homes can access and see the live video from the cameras installed in the parking lots and in the children's playgrounds because the maxium concurrent users of all the network A/V servers available in the market are less than one hundred.
- PIMA Server for the Camera Manufacturer
The PIMA server has been installed in many camera manufacturers, who wanted not to disclose that their network camera is based on the CryptoTeleom's technology and products. Without a big investment in the IP survillance, they succeeded in manufacturing and selling their own brand of network cameras with the help of CryptoTelecom's technology and products. They are now giving the PIMA service to their customers after buying the PIMA server from CryptoTelecom.
- PIMA Server for the Internet Service Provider
The PIMA server has been installed for an internet servie provider. The internet service provider bought and customized the PIMA server to develeop their own video monitoring service, of which main purpose is to increase the market share in the internet service market by providing a value added service.
6. Is there any reference site of the PIMA Server ?
There are many reference sites of the PIMA Server. The following sites are the reference sites with the reason why the PIMA server has been intalled.
- Gangnam-gu (District) Office in Seoul, Korea
The PIMA server as a relay server has been installed in Gangnam-gu (District) Office. In Gangnam-gu, there are Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX), World Trade Center Seoul (WTC Seoul) and Seoul Trade Exhibition Center (SETEC). The richest korean people live in Gangnam-gu.
All the cameras used to detect illegal parking on the street and the road of Gangnam-gu are MPEG4 encoded using CryptoTelecom's network A/V servers and transmitted to the PIMA server at the Gangnam-gu (District) Office. Then the PIMA server distributes all the videos from the camera via network A/V servers to the clients such as network A/V clients, operator's PC, license number plate recognition systems and network video recorders through the LAN. The PIMA server, network A/V clients, operator's PC, license number plate recognition systems and network video recorders were installed in the same place. So, the bandwidth of the LAN is enough and there is no need to lease the internet line. Like this, Gangnam-gu reduced the traffic from the camea on the street to many clients such as network A/V clients, operator's PC, license number plate recognition systems and network video recorders in virtue of the PIMA server in the Gangnam-gu (District) Office, resulting in reducing the cost of the leased internet line needed to transmit the video from a camera on the street to many clients such as network A/V clients, operator's PC, license number plate recognition systems and network video recorders using the PIMA server.
The followings are the photos of the central monitoring center of Gangnam-gu (District) Office in Seoul, Korea.

- PIMA Server for the Camera Manufacturer
The PIMA server has been installed in many camera manufacturers. But, it is difficult to disclose the names of camera manufacturers to protect their business because many camera manufacturers requested CryptoTelecom not to disclose their names. CryptoTelecom politely request your understanding.
- PIMA Server for the Internet Service Provider
LG DACOM customized the PIMA server to develop their own video monitoring service called EyeGuard, of which main purpose is to increase the market share in the internet service market by providing a value added service to their customers. The following is the EyeGuard Service operated by LG DACOM. If you request EyeGuard service, LG DACOM will install network cameras and network A/V servers wherever you want to install in the world and give you an ID and a password needed to log in the EyeGuard server (PIMA server). If you access to and log in the EyeGuard server using the ID and the password, you can monitor all the camereas on your PC very conveniently.
